Product Story

In 1963, New York paper cup manufacturer Sherri Cup Company introduced a simple blue-and-white coffee cup designed by Leslie Buck, a Czech-born Holocaust survivor who immigrated to America and built a new life in New York.

Inspired by the Greek diners that had become fixtures of city life, Buck incorporated classical Greek imagery and colors associated with the Greek flag into the design. The result was a paper cup that eventually became one of the most recognizable objects in New York City.

For decades it sat in the hands of cab drivers, construction workers, office workers, students, immigrants, artists, and shopkeepers. It crossed neighborhoods, languages, religions, and generations.

The cup became New York. That story felt familiar to us. A European immigrant created it. Greek immigrants popularized it. Countless immigrant communities carried it.

And now Arab Hyphenated adds another chapter. Because our brand has never been about claiming ownership over culture. It is about recognizing how cultures meet, overlap, borrow, influence, and reshape one another.
